About Ubod
Ubod is a calorie counter and nutrition coaching app for iOS, Android and the web. You take a photo of your plate or scan a barcode, Ubod works out the calories and macros, tracks your weight and keeps you going with Fanak, a fennec fox coach, through streaks and rewards.
What Ubod does
Ubod helps you understand what you eat and move towards your goal, whether that is losing weight, maintaining it or gaining. The app brings these tools together in one place:
- AI photo scan of a plate, to estimate the foods on it and their calories.
- Barcode scan for packaged products.
- A food diary, meal by meal.
- Macronutrient targets (protein, carbohydrate, fat) and micronutrient targets.
- Recipes with calories and macros per serving.
- Weight tracking over time.
- Fanak, the mascot coach: a fennec fox who cheers you on every day.
- Streaks of consecutive days and rewards to help you keep going.
Ubod has a free plan and a Pro subscription. The app runs on iPhone, on Android and in the browser at web.ubod.app.
Where does our data come from?
The nutrition values shown on this website and in the app come from public, named sources. We do not make them up: every value points back to its source.
How we calculate
Every figure rests on a published method. These are the ones we use.
Calorie needs
Basal metabolic rate is estimated with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (Am J Clin Nutr 1990;51(2):241-247), from weight, height, age and sex. It is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate total daily energy expenditure.
Body mass index
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in metres. The categories (underweight, healthy weight, overweight, obesity) follow the World Health Organization classification.
Recipes per serving
For a recipe, we add up the values of each ingredient according to its quantity, then divide the total by the number of servings.
Nutrition claims
When a food is described as "high in protein" or "low in sugars", for example, we apply the thresholds of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims.
Reference intakes
Percentages of reference intake follow Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, for an average adult:
| Energy | 2,000 kcal |
|---|---|
| Fat | 70 g |
| of which saturates | 20 g |
| Carbohydrate | 260 g |
| of which sugars | 90 g |
| Protein | 50 g |
| Salt | 6 g |
You can check these methods yourself with our calorie calculator or browse the food calories index.
